We know families come in all shapes and sizes across the UK and we want to celebrate them all this Family Friendly Week (19 - 26 October)! The aim of Family Friendly Week is to increase recognition of the issues faced by families up and down the country – including the struggle to find a work-life balance that helps you and your family to spend quality time together. To mark the week and celebrate all our families, we have chosen Get Creative as our theme for 2015.

Celebrate Family Friendly Week with us and take part in our Get Creative competition

We want you and your family to spend quality time together this Family Friendly Week by showing off your family’s creativity by making cardboard tube models that look like you and your family! Share a picture of your family’s cardboard tube models with us and you will be entered into our competition for a chance to win a £50 Walker Books bundle.

Crafting together is a great way for parents and carers to focus fully on being with their children and for children to learn new ways to exercise and express their imagination. You can make a cardboard tube model from everyday items you may have lying around the house – an empty kitchen roll, colouring pens, some paper and glue. Make your cardboard models any size you want and decorate them any way you like. If you want some creative inspiration, have a look at our models to get started:

After you put the finishing touches to your creations, bring your family’s models together for a family portrait and share the picture with us online during Family Friendly Week using the hashtag #FamilyFriendlyWeek. You can:

Our judges – Campaign Manager Jenny Daly from the Family Arts Campaign, Director David Brownlee from Bon Culture and Julia Margo, chief executive at the Family and Childcare Trust - will review your pictures and announce the three finalists on Friday 30 October. Finalists will win a £50 bundle of books from Walker Books for first place, £30 for second place and £20 for third place. If your picture is selected as one of our finalists, we’ll share your family’s model portrait on our Facebook page as our Get Creative competition finalist and get in touch with your prize.
