Julia Margo and Ellen Broomé have been appointed as Joint Chief Executives at the Family and Childcare Trust. In line with the charity’s advocacy of the benefits of family friendly working policies for both parents and employers, the job share will allow the charity to boost its impact on family life in the UK to new levels.

Julia has served as Chief Executive at the Family and Childcare Trust since July 2015 and is returning from parental leave following the birth of her third child. She was previously Director of Consumer Insight at Which?, Deputy Director and Acting Director at Demos, and Head of Strategic Research at the Institute for Public Policy Research.

Ellen joined the Family and Childcare Trust in 2014 and has served as Deputy Chief Executive since November 2015. She has also recently returned from parental leave after the birth of her first child. She was previously Director of Policy and Public Affairs at the Children’s Society.

Ellen Broomé said:

“The Family and Childcare Trust is determined to secure a childcare deal for families that makes work pay for parents today and prepares children to achieve tomorrow. Making sure reliable childcare infrastructure is in place is as vital as the rails and roads to making our country run. I am thrilled to be working with Julia and the team to develop a blueprint for childcare fit for the 21st century.”

Julia Margo said:

“Ellen and I are delighted to work alongside each other towards the charity’s vision of a society where all working families are well-supported and have genuine choices about their lives. The Family and Childcare Trust has been going from strength to strength and we’re keen to take this momentum forward at this critical time when Government is rolling out sweeping changes to childcare in the UK. Many challenges lie ahead for families and carers alike and we will be leading a strong staff team to make sure their voices are heard.”
