You are here: News Response to misleading headlines about the Family and Childcare Trust's anti-poverty childcare report

We were disappointed to read the headlines Government urged to abandon 30-hour free childcare extension and Abandon Free Childcare, Charity Urges in relation to our anti-poverty childcare report. They are misleading because the Family and Childcare Trust has not urged the Government to abandon the 30 hour offer, in fact we support this offer as an important short-term step to improve provision.

Our report – which was commissioned by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to support a long-term anti-poverty childcare strategy for the UK - calls for funding reform and proposes a new approach in the future. In the meantime, 30 hours of free childcare will help a lot of parents and we are working with the Department for Education to support implementation.
