You are here: News Response to Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Loughborough University’s Minimum income standard report

In reaction to Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Loughborough University’s Households Below a Minimum Income Standard 2008/09 to 2014/15, Ellen Broomé, Deputy Chief Executive of the Family and Childcare Trust said:

“Yet again we see too many families with children struggling to bring in enough money to secure an adequate standard of living. The high cost of childcare puts great pressure on family budgets and can force some parents to work fewer hours, which means bringing in less earnings.

"Investing in childcare to reduce costs would provide a lifeline for the four in ten lone parents working full time who still fall below the minimum income standard. High quality childcare not only boosts children’s learning – it supports parents to work and to secure a decent standard of living.”
