You are here: News Response to BCC’s survey on childcare

The Family and Childcare Trust responds to the British Chamber of Commerce’s survey highlighting the impact of childcare on businesses’ ability to recruit and retain staff.

Megan Jarvie, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at Family and Childcare Trust, said:

"Many of the parents we speak to tell us that the costs and availability of childcare in their area are formidable barriers to work. Our research found just 45 per cent of local authorities in England had enough childcare for parents who work full time in 2016. But this isn’t just a problem for families: this survey shows that employers are also struggling to recruit and retain staff. Childcare is just as essential to getting parents to work as our railways and roads. Investing in childcare supports businesses in the UK, improves social mobility and gives children the best head start in life."
