You are here: News Anand Shukla to leave Family and Childcare Trust to head up Brightside
The chief executive of the Family and Childcare Trust, Anand Shukla, is leaving the charity to head up Brightside, a young people’s mentoring charity from February 2015.
Formerly the chief executive of the Daycare Trust, Mr Shukla led the creation of the Family and Childcare Trust through a merger with the Family and Parenting Institute at the end of 2012, enabling the new charity to focus on campaigning to reduce pressures on family life and making the UK a better place for all families.
Mr Shukla said: “It has been a privilege to have led an organisation that has so successfully helped to place childcare at the centre of political debate, and has made such a difference for children and families across the UK.
“After creating and then leading Family and Childcare Trust, I look forward to seeing it continue to be a powerful advocate on behalf of families in the future.”
Chair of the Family and Childcare Trust’s board of trustees, Kate Stephens, said:
“In a short period of time, Anand has created a new charity that has really punched above its weight. As a result of its excellent research and campaigning work, we have seen some very positive changes to childcare announced and implemented. “It is to Anand’s credit that childcare will feature strongly in the forthcoming general election. We shall miss his expertise and passion for improving family life in Britain, and have no doubt he will achieve similar success at Brightside. We are looking forward to finding a new chief executive to lead us through the next stage of our development in 2015 and beyond.”
Welcoming the appointment, Brightside’s Acting Chief Executive Suzanne Maskrey said:
“We are excited to have Anand join Brightside. We are impressed by his knowledge and experience of mentoring and developing others throughout his career, and he clearly strongly identifies with Brightside’s aims. Our trustees and team have great plans for the future and we believe Anand will bring the drive and expertise to lead us to achieve enormous success.”
Anand Shukla joined Daycare Trust in 2009, beginning as business director before becoming chief executive in 2010. The Family and Childcare Trust board of trustees will now start the process of finding a new chief executive.
