Stephen Dunmore has been appointed as interim chief executive at the Family and Childcare Trust and will take up the role on Monday 2 February.

Stephen was previously chief executive at the New Opportunities Fund, which developed and funded a large-scale childcare programme between 1998 and 2003, and subsequently the Big Lottery Fund.

Since leaving the Big Lottery Fund in 2008, he has held interim chief executive roles at the Responsible Gambling Fund, The Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, the Lumos Foundation and the National Consumer Council; he has also been chair of Capacitybuilders, National Family Mediation and the BBC’s Awards Advisory Committee.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Dunmore said:

“I am delighted to join the Family and Childcare Trust at such an important time. In its short history, the charity has built a compelling argument for the need for a radical overhaul of the childcare system, and the general election presents us with an exciting opportunity to make our case to politicians from all political parties. “I also look forward to working with the team to build on the charity’s wider work in making the UK family friendly by reducing pressures on family lives, and to realise our vision of a society where all families are supported to thrive.”

Kate Stephens, co-chair of the board of trustees at the Family and Childcare Trust said:

“Stephen comes with an incredible track record and has a real passion for creating positive change for families. “I am very pleased he has accepted this challenging role and confident he will help the Family and Childcare Trust to flourish over the next few months.”

Mr Dunmore replaces Anand Shukla, who will take up the role of chief executive at Brightside, a young people’s mentoring charity.

The charity’s board of trustees will now start the work to recruit a permanent chief executive.
