You are here: News Family and Childcare Trust celebrates living wage commitment

The Family and Childcare Trust has today been accredited as a Living Wage employer.

The UK charity – which currently employs 25 people – is commited to paying the living wage for all its employees and third-party contractors and suppliers.

The living wage is set at £7.85 per hour but with its head office in London, the London living wage of £9.15 will apply to most of the people who work for or with the Family and Childcare Trust.

Farah Elahi, who recently passed her MA, took up a fixed-term contract as a project intern at the charity. She said:

"I was looking for an internship so that I could get to know the charity sector and expand my project management skills.

"It makes all the difference to be paid a London living wage. I can give my full attention and energy to the project I’m working on, and learn new skills while I’m here, without worrying about money."

Stephen Dunmore, chief executive at the Family and Childcare Trust said:

"We’re delighted that we are now officially a Living Wage employer. For talented people like Farah, and for families to be able to thrive in Britain, wages need to reflect the cost of living.

"We hope that other organisations will follow our example, and support family life by making sure their employees are paid a fair wage and through promoting flexible working and other family friendly employment policies."
